In 2007 Grace Church was introduced to Bernard Mwangi (through Teleios Ministry). Bernard is a native of Kenya and is a dynamic person who is a gifted leader, discipler and teacher. Our partnership with Bernard and FOBOCK (Fellowship of Baptists of Central Kenya) has given Grace another opportunity to work with an organization that shares our vision - making mature disciples of Christ and equipping people for a life of spiritual passion. By the end of 2008, Grace will have sent four teaching/training teams (two per year) focused on pastoral and church leadership training, and one medical team to Kenya to serve alongside the local churches and pastors.
Our goal for 2009 is to expand our partnership with Bernard and FOBOCK to include two medical teams, two teaching/training teams, and an economic development/empowerment team that will focus on Christian principles in establishing and running a small business as well as basic business skills and principles needed for success. Our opportunities for service in Kenya align well with our strengths as a church - biblical teaching & training, and serving through hands-on ministry that provides basic life needs.
April 08 - Sipili
In April of 2008 Grace sent a team of seven medical personnel to a town remote town named Sipili. The team was committed to providing medical care to the town and surrounding area for four consecutive days - other free clinics in the past had only provided services for one day. During the time there, the team diagnosed and prescribed treatment and medications, provided dental services and health teaching to approximately 1,200 people.
June & Nov 08 - Teaching/Training
Twice a year Grace sends a small team (3-4 persons) of pastors and leaders to work with FOBOCK to provide biblical training and teaching to local pastors and church leaders. The conferences provide a forum for the Kenyan pastors and leaders to receive new ideas related to ministry, to be encouraged in their work, and to receive pastoral care and teaching.
