Action Oriented with Zack Callaham

STUDY QUESTIONS

Download Episode 1 Study Questions, and then share, listen and discuss in a one on one conversation or with a group of men.

APPLICATION

  • What is the significance of being action oriented? Why is it important, as men, to move towards action and responsibility in our lives?
  • If you were to look at your “to-do” list, in what areas are you avoiding movement?
  • What are the key motivators behind your inaction? Is it pride? Selfishness? Fear? Laziness?
  • What one step can you take this week to move towards action and take responsibility for the people and situations in your life?

KEY POINTS

  • One of the key principles involved in being action oriented is the idea of movement.  Often, we need to simply take the next step and do something. The small decisions we make, over time, can lead to big changes in our lives and the lives of those for whom we are responsible.
  • Zack was inspired by what he learned from the leadership values teachings and decided to take one small step towards becoming more action oriented. He took time to review his “to-do” list and evaluate areas where he was avoiding movement. He asked himself the question, “Why am I putting this off?”
  • After his evaluation, Zack realized his motivation behind not acting in certain situations was often pride and selfishness. His pride led to a fear of making the wrong decision or doing the wrong thing. He avoided taking risks because this opened up the opportunity for failure. His selfishness led him to make excuses for his behavior (i.e. “I’m too tired” or “That will take too much of my time”).
  • Zack was able to take what he learned and begin to apply the principle of being action oriented in his own life. He began a process of memorizing Scripture and opened up conversation with his wife as a way of moving towards action and responsibility. He also allowed himself to be in biblical community with other men who challenged and inspired him to move.
