James & Mary Campbell
Preschool Small Group Leaders | Pelham Road

With so many young couples and families with young children at Grace Church, it’s a common occurrence to see volunteers go on “pregnancy leave.” While to some folks that could be an excuse to stop serving for a few years, many of our volunteers at Grace jump right back into the mix. That’s Mary Campbell’s plan.
Mary and her husband James served as small group leaders for a class of 2- and 3-year-olds during Pelham Road’s 9 a.m. service for a year and a half, but took a break at the beginning of February. That’s because the couple is expecting their first child this month.
During the hiatus, James has continued serving, switching areas to the adult worship team. Mary plans to return to her role as a volunteer in the fall. She said her favorite part of working with the Children’s Ministry is meeting other families in the church.
She and James have also enjoyed the antics of their 2- and 3-year-old charges.
“One time, one of our boys lined everyone in the class up in rows of chairs, to ‘go to the circus,’” Mary said.
James and Mary enjoy traveling; last summer they took a backpacking trip through Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama. The above photo was taken on that trip, in Nicaragua.
“We enjoy being in other cultures,” Mary said.
James and Mary live in Greenville, and James works as a Spanish teacher at Carolina High School.
